The Shalvasan: Lore
Hello Fellow Adventurers,
and welcome to the beginning of a brand-new mini-series where we’ll journey far beyond the stories and into the heart of my greatest creative passion: The planet Shalvasan.
Together, we’ll explore its inhabitants, its hidden histories, its mysteries, and the unseen forces shaping every tale. I invite you to come discover the foundations, the hidden threads, and the countless stories that exist beyond the ones you’ve already experienced.
My stories are only the beginning.
As an author, we know things about our worlds we may not reveal, they are just known and we write accordingly. Slowly bits and pieces may trickle in, but the whole picture is not shown.
Where are the Shalvasan females?
If you are a loyal fan to the series, you know most Shalvasan characters are males. Where are the females?
I guess this comes down to how is their society structured, which is something that has never been explicitly explained.
We have male kings and leaders in the three main cities: Seraphim, Kazaki, and Ka’nar. Seraphim and Ka’nar are ruled by kings, while Kazaki is led by a single leader. There are no queens, except for the Clutch Queens of Seraphim.
SERAPHIM FEMALES:
What is a Clutch Queen?
The Clutch Queens are Seraphim’s most genetically desirable females. They are the only females permitted to lay eggs for reproduction, and only affluent or high-ranking males are allowed to fertilize them. All other male-female pairings are forbidden under Seraphim law.
The Clutch Queens oversee the raising of every hatchling. Female hatchlings are sent to advanced academies, while male hatchlings are assigned to the mines. A small number of exceptional males are selected for warrior training, but the vast majority spend their lives as mining slaves.
Once each year, male Dustling slaves are given an opportunity to earn warrior status by surviving a brutal trial. Those who fail are sent back to the mines, and many do not survive long enough to attempt the trial a second time.
Note: In the current storyline, the institution of the Clutch Queens has been abolished by decree of the new King. The former Clutch Queens, however, are furious over the loss of their power and are secretly plotting in the background as we speak.
Female Hatchlings
Females are never trained as warriors. Instead, they become healers, engineers, mechanics, architects, and scientists responsible for advancing Seraphim society.
They are rarely seen because they spend their lives in laboratories, workshops, and research facilities, designing the technologies that keep the kingdom prosperous. Among their greatest achievements are The Shalvasanian spacecrafts, holo-tech systems, diamond-light shields, and airships.
This is why so few females are seen in Seraphim, they are busy building the future of the city.
KA’NAR FEMALES:
Unlike Seraphim, Ka’nar has no restrictions on reproduction. Couples are free to pair, raise Dustlings, and build families as they choose. However, generations of corruption have kept the city’s citizens impoverished.
Females occupy very different roles here. Many work as entertainers or servants for the wealthy males who reside within the Citadel. Others struggle to survive as beggars, earning gems to support their large families.
A small but highly respected elite of females are engineers of Ka’nar’s renowned airships. Ka’nar is the largest producer of airships on the planet, and many of its most radical technological innovations come from the brilliance of its female inhabitants.
KAZAKI FEMALES:
We know Kae, the Head Shaman, as the most respected spiritual healer within Kazaki. Alongside other female shamans, she oversees healing, religious traditions, and the worship of water.
In Kazaki, all matters of faith and healing are entrusted to women. They are believed to possess a sacred connection to nature and serve as the teachers, guides, and spiritual leaders of the Kazaki people.
The males fulfill different but equally valued roles as protectors, builders, hunters, and traders. Some also dedicate their lives to prayer and meditation, serving alongside the female shamans in devotion to the natural world.
THE DESERT EXPANSE:
There are small numbers of females in the expanse but not many. It is mainly a place for marauders, thieves, and vagabonds who have either been kicked out of cities or have chosen to lead a life not dictated by the rules of the cities. It would be the closest place where a female warrior type may be found, but most stick to survival roles, like gathering food and building shelters. The expanse is a lawless place where few thrive and many die.
This makes Nira both a social abomination and strangely alluring. She has the outward appearance of a female Shalvasan, but beneath the surface lies the internal machinery of a lethal warrior. Most people see her as an ordinary female, but once she demonstrates her combat abilities, some refuse to accept her, while others find themselves falling in love with her. Notably Cavren who knows what she is, and our newest character Torrvash who has no idea she’s a mech. New chapters in The Crown of Ashes and Blood IV.5 may explore this further….but you will have to wait and see. 😉

Nira is such an intriguing character concept—a lethal mech posing as a female Shalvasan in a culture where female warriors simply don't exist. The romantic dynamic, with Torrvash unaware of her true nature, is going to be so much fun to watch unfold!
A world building page is important. You do such amazing things with your books. All Hail the Lizard Queen! (I should do some world building entries before I start posting chapters of Book 2). Thanks for all you do.
